Choose Life: Understanding Your Spiritual Blessing
In a world filled with challenges and uncertainties, we often forget the incredible spiritual position we hold as believers. Today's message centers on a powerful truth from Deuteronomy 30:19: "Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessing and curse. Now I call heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life so that you and your descendants might live."
What Does It Mean to Be Blessed?
When you accepted Jesus as your Savior, something remarkable happened - you stepped into blessing. This isn't just a nice sentiment; it's a spiritual reality. According to Ephesians 1:3, "every spiritual blessing in heavenly places has been lavished upon us as a love gift of our wonderful heavenly Father, the Father of our Lord Jesus, all because he sees us wrapped in Christ."
You need to change your perspective about yourself. You are blessed. Not because of what you've done, but because of what Christ has done for you.
The Original Blessing vs. The Curse
To understand our blessing, we must look back to the beginning. In Genesis 1:28, the very first thing God said to humanity was a blessing: "Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth, subdue it. Have dominion over everything in the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that creeps upon the earth."
However, Deuteronomy 28 also outlines what happens when people turn away from God - a detailed description of curses that would come upon those who disobey. These curses are real and devastating, affecting every area of life from health to relationships to finances.
How Jesus Changed Everything
Here's the life-changing truth: Jesus took care of the curse problem completely. Galatians 3:13-14 reveals this incredible exchange: "Christ paid the full price to set us free from the curse of the law. He absorbed it completely as he became a curse in our place... this Jesus, our Messiah, was cursed in our place. And in so doing, he dissolved the curse from our lives."
Jesus didn't just protect us from the curse - He completely absorbed it. Every last drop. There's none left for you.
What This Means for Your Daily Life
You Have Dominion Over the Curse
The devil may try to push you hard at times and attempt to put some curse on you, but he's lying. He doesn't have any right, authority, or ability to do anything to you unless you let him. You must dig in your heels to the blessing you have and refuse to let him lie you out of it.
You Are a Co-Heir with Jesus
Right now, you are a co-possessor of everything heaven has to offer. Every promise that God ever made was directed at the seed of Abraham, who was Jesus. In Jesus, we become the seed of Abraham. As 2 Corinthians tells us, all the promises of God in Christ are ours.
You Can't Earn God's Blessing
This blessing isn't something you work for or earn through good behavior. It's a sovereign gift of God. You should do what's right, but not to earn God's blessing - rather because of the joy of loving Him and knowing that you are already blessed.
Living in the Reality of Your Blessing
The blessing of Abraham that now rests on you includes:
Health and healing
Victory and dominion over every area of life
Abundance in spirit, soul, and body
The power to be a blessing to all families of the earth
The power to change the world
These things became yours the moment you were born again. It's automatic. You are blessed.
When Life Doesn't Match God's Word
You must settle in your heart once and for all that what the Bible says is true. When your life and ideas don't match up with God's Word, you change your life because the Word is true - period, all the time.
God wants you to live in the blessing, not to believe the lie of the enemy that says the curse is around. You are in the blessing. You live in the blessing.
Life Application
This week, challenge yourself to truly believe and live in the reality of your spiritual blessing. Start each day by declaring "I am blessed" and look for evidence of God's blessing in your life. When challenges come, remember that you have dominion over the curse and that every promise of God belongs to you in Christ.
Ask yourself these questions:
Do I truly believe I am blessed, or am I still living as if I'm under a curse?
How would my daily decisions change if I fully embraced my identity as blessed?
What lies from the enemy have I been believing about my circumstances?
How can I use my blessing to be a blessing to others this week?
Remember, you stepped into blessing the moment you chose life in Christ. Now it's time to live like the blessed person you truly are.
