When God Dreams With You: The Power of Unity and Divine Purpose
Have you ever wondered where your biggest dreams really come from? What if the most impossible ideas stirring in your heart aren't just wishful thinking, but actually God inviting you into His plans for your life?
Your Dreams Don't Always Start With You
Here's something that might surprise you: your dreams don't always originate with you. God has a way of coming into your life and planting thoughts, ideas, and what might seem like crazy dreams. You know those moments when you think, "Wow, wonder where that idea came from? That's really cool. I've never considered that before."
God likes to dream with you. He's not sitting on His throne twiddling His thumbs, wondering what's happening on earth. He's intricately involved in your life, wanting to be part of everything you do - whether you're at church, running on a treadmill, or gardening in your backyard.
What Does It Look Like When God Dreams With People?
Joseph's Impossible Dream
God dreamed with Joseph that he would rule Egypt and bring deliverance to his people. Do you think 17-year-old Joseph or his family thought this dream was from God? Absolutely not. There was no unity in the family over this dream - quite the opposite. It seemed ridiculous that his parents and siblings would bow down before him.
David's Royal Calling
God dreamed with David, the shepherd boy, that he would become king of Israel - a king after God's own heart. This announcement came when David might have been only 13, 14, or 15 years old. His family didn't believe it either, responding with unbelief and criticism.
But here's what's amazing: David's throne became so significant in God's heart that it became an eternal throne. When the angel Gabriel told Mary about Jesus, he said Jesus would sit on "the throne of his father David."
Paul's Complete Turnaround
God had a dream for Paul that he would lead Gentiles to salvation. Paul was a zealot for Jewish law who went out of his way to kill people who loved Jesus. But God's dream came to him so powerfully while he was on horseback that it literally knocked him off his horse. In one second, Paul changed directions completely and became an apostle to the Gentiles.
Why Unity Matters in God's Dreams
Unity isn't just a nice idea - it's absolutely critical for seeing God's power move. In Genesis 11, when people were building the Tower of Babel, God said, "Look, the people are united and they speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them."
Unity allows us to do the impossible.
The Power of Agreement
Jesus said in Matthew 18:19, "If two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done by them of My Father in heaven." This verse declares the power of unity - when we agree together, something is released that doesn't happen otherwise.
Paul strongly encouraged unity in the church, saying we should "all agree that there will be no division among you" and be "of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose."
When Dreams and Unity Come Together
Something unbelievable happens when people come together collectively and go after the same dream. Power erupts and sends out shock waves that are off the scale. Every time someone tries to cause disharmony in that unity, the enemy is trying to keep you from what the Church is supposed to do.
A Real Example of Unity's Power
Recently, when the congregation united in prayer for one person facing difficult circumstances, something broke open that wasn't even specifically asked for. Within days, that person had an opportunity to lead someone to salvation - a direct result of the power of unity coming together in prayer.
What Does God Dream for You?
God has dreams for you personally, no matter how old or young you are. His dreams for you are really good, and He has many dreams for you. These dreams will:
- Stir the deepest places in your heart
- Unlock deep reservoirs of creativity
- Reveal areas of gifting and talent you didn't know you had
- Take you out of your comfort zone
- Be beyond what seems possible
The people in the Bible were ordinary people, just like you and me. They weren't superstars or actors playing roles. God loves to take normal, everyday, seemingly insignificant people and do something so incredible that people wonder, "How is that possible?"
Embracing God's Dreams
For God's dreams to come to pass, you have to embrace them. Joseph had to embrace God's dream for him. David had to embrace it. You and I have to embrace the dreams God has for us.
This means actively participating:
- Asking God what His dreams are for you
- Preparing yourself to step into those dreams
- Saying yes when He reveals His plans
- Joining your heart with His will and purpose
Dreams for the Church and Nation
God doesn't just have dreams for individuals - He has dreams for churches and nations too. His dreams for our land are good, and believers need to join together in unity to declare and pray the things God has revealed about His plans.
When we agree together for the nation as one heart and mind in unity, power is released and the unexpected happens. We're not telling God what to do - we're asking, "Father, what is Your heart for this nation?" and then joining with His dreams.
Life Application
This week, position your heart to say yes to God's dreams. Don't dismiss those "impossible" thoughts and ideas that come to you - they might be God inviting you into His plans. Ask Him directly: "What dreams do You have for me? How can I prepare myself to step into what You're calling me to do?"
Also, commit to unity in your relationships and church community. When someone tries to cause division or get you offended, remember that the enemy is trying to stop the power that comes through unity.
Questions to ask yourself:
- What "impossible" dreams or ideas have I been dismissing that might actually be from God?
- Am I actively seeking God's dreams for my life, or just waiting for something to happen to me?
- How can I better contribute to unity in my church and relationships this week?
- What would it look like for me to truly believe that "nothing is impossible" when I'm united with God and others in His purposes?
