Present Yourselves to God

Present Yourselves to God

On October 19, 2025, Pastor Rebecca Gore delivered a powerful sermon at Lighthouse Church, focusing on the theme of presenting ourselves to God. Drawing from a compelling biblical narrative, Pastor Rebecca highlighted the significance of holiness, obedience, and the presence of God in our lives.

The Ark of the Covenant

The sermon began with a recounting of 1 Chronicles 13 and 2 Samuel 6, where King David sought to bring the Ark of the Covenant back to Israel. The Ark, a symbol of God's presence, had been neglected during Saul's reign. Pastor Rebecca emphasized that sometimes we are called to complete what previous generations left undone, urging us to act on what God calls us to do today.

The Holiness of God

In the story, Uzzah's death for touching the Ark (1 Chronicles 13:10) served as a stark reminder of God's holiness. Pastor Rebecca explained that God's presence is sacred, and we must respect His holiness. She likened this to the nature of fire, which has unchanging properties—providing light and warmth but also capable of destruction if not respected. This analogy illustrated the need to honor God's commands and not "water down" His truth.

Living in Holiness and Purity

Pastor Rebecca transitioned into a discussion about personal holiness, referencing Romans 6:12-13: "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body..." She called the congregation to present themselves as instruments of righteousness, living pure and holy lives. The sermon stressed the importance of obeying God's commandments and loving God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, as highlighted in Luke 10:27-28.

The Call to Community

The story of the Levites carrying the Ark on their shoulders (1 Chronicles 15:15) was used to illustrate the importance of community. Pastor Rebecca pointed out that carrying the presence of God is a communal effort, requiring communication and cooperation among believers. This togetherness strengthens our walk with God and helps us bear the weight of His calling.

Embracing God's Grace

Pastor Rebecca reassured the congregation that God helps us in our journey, just as He aided the Levites. She referenced Romans 6:1-2, emphasizing that we should not continue in sin but live in the new life Christ offers. The sermon underscored that God's grace is sufficient, enabling us to overcome sin and live righteously.

A Call to Action

In concluding, Pastor Rebecca urged the congregation to reject sin and embrace a life of holiness. She encouraged them to seek God's help, reminding them of Ephesians 5:27: "...that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle..." The altar was opened for those ready to commit to a life of purity and righteousness, supported by God's grace and the Holy Spirit.

This sermon was a profound call to live according to God's standards, embracing His holiness and grace while fostering a supportive community that carries His presence together. The message was a reminder of the transformative power of God's presence and the importance of living a life that honors Him.

Reflect on a time when you had to prepare for something significant, like a presentation or a personal goal. What emotions did you experience during the preparation process?

How do you currently perceive the concept of holiness in your daily life? Consider moments when you felt particularly close to or distant from this ideal.

Examine Romans 6:12-13. What does it mean to present yourself to God as an instrument of righteousness, and how does this challenge your current lifestyle?

Personal Reflection

Consider the story of Uzzah in 1 Chronicles 13:9-10. What does this story reveal about the holiness of God and our human responses to it?

How does Exodus 33:18-23 illustrate God’s desire for relationship while maintaining His holiness? What does this tell us about balancing reverence and intimacy with God?

Personal Application
