From Curse to Blessing: Understanding Your Freedom in Christ

What Was God's Original Promise to Abraham?
God's relationship with Abraham reveals His heart for blessing His people. In Genesis 17:1-7, God appeared to Abraham with a powerful declaration: "I am Almighty God. Walk before me and be blameless. I will make my covenant between me and you and multiply you exceedingly."
This wasn't just a one-time promise. God repeatedly confirmed His blessing over Abraham, telling him he would be "the father of many nations" and establishing "an everlasting covenant." The scope of this blessing was remarkable - it would touch every person on earth.
In Genesis 22:17-18, God declared: "Blessing, I will bless you. And in multiplying, I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, as sand which is on the seashore... And in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you obeyed my voice."
How Did the Law Introduce Curses?

Galatians 3:13 contains one of the most liberating truths in Scripture: "Christ paid the full price to set us free from the curse of the law. He absorbed it completely as he became a curse in our place."
This means Jesus didn't just take away some of our problems - He completely dissolved the curse that hung over humanity. As the passage continues: "Everyone who is hung upon a tree is doubly cursed. Christ took the curse that was due us by becoming a curse for us. The curse is over for you."
This isn't partial freedom - it's complete liberation. The curse has been entirely removed from your life through Christ's sacrifice.
How Do We Receive Abraham's Blessing Today?
Galatians 3:7-9 explains how we inherit Abraham's blessing: "Those who are the true children of Abraham will have the same faith as their father... through your example of faith, all the nations will be blessed. And so the blessing of Abraham's faith is now our blessing too."
We don't receive this blessing by keeping the law perfectly - that's impossible. Instead, we receive it through faith, just as Abraham did. Galatians 3:11-12 clarifies: "No one achieves the righteousness of God by attempting to keep the law... those who have been made holy will live by faith."
What Does It Mean to Be Abraham's Heir?
Galatians 3:29 declares: "Since you've been united with Jesus, the Messiah, you are now Abraham's child and heirs according to the promises of the kingdom realm."
This inheritance is comprehensive. Galatians 4:6-7 explains: "God released his spirit of sonship into our hearts... We are no longer living like slaves under the law, but we enjoy being God's own very own sons and daughters. And because of this, we have access to everything the Father has."
As Abraham's heirs through Christ, we have access to the same backing, the same promises, and the same blessing that God gave to Abraham.
What Specific Areas Does This Blessing Cover?
Freedom from Sickness and Disease
First Peter 2:24 reminds us: "Who himself bore our sins on a tree in his own body, that we having died to sin, might live for righteousness by whose stripes you were healed."
Freedom from Financial Curse
Second Corinthians 8:9 declares: "For we know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you might through his poverty, become rich."
Every Spiritual Blessing
Ephesians 1:3 encompasses it all: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ."
How Should This Change How We Live?
Understanding our position in Christ should revolutionize our thinking. We're not just hoping for blessing - we're already blessed. We're not trying to earn God's favor - we already have it through Christ.
Ephesians 2:6 reveals our elevated position: "He raised us up as Christ the Exalted One. We ascended with him into the glorious perfection and authority of the heavenly realm, where we are now co-seated as one with Christ."
Galatians 5:1 provides a crucial warning: "The Anointed One has set us free. Not partially but completely and wonderfully free. We must not go back... stubbornly refuse to go back into the bondage of our past."
Why Is This Truth So Important?
Every promise in the Bible is God's blood-sworn oath to us. All of His promises are "yes and amen" to those who are in Christ. Just as surely as God spoke to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, He speaks to us today: "I will perform in your life the blessings of Abraham."
This isn't just theological theory - it's meant to transform how we walk through life. When we truly grasp that we're blessed, not cursed, it fills our faith and sends us soaring into new heights as God's children.

This week, challenge yourself to live from the reality of your blessed position rather than from circumstances or feelings. Instead of wondering if God will bless you, start each day declaring the truth: "I am blessed." When challenges arise, remind yourself that you're not under a curse but under God's covenant blessing through Christ.
